Chris Milne began his career as a mechanical engineer/programmer building and testing surgical robots, and has been a part of the "tech scene" ever since, working in a number of industries ranging from Banking (Capital One), eCommerce (Macy’s), and Design Consulting (IDEO), in both the Bay Area, and New York City.
After moving with his family to Benicia in 2017, he has worked to be an active member of the Benicia community, engaging with the local Makerspace in Benicia’s industrial park, as well as volunteering in his daughter’s Elementary School, in both assistant teacher & organizational roles. He’s lectured at Benicia High School on prototyping, & design, attempting to pass on some of the “maker” knowledge he accumulated while a prototyper at IDEO. This in turn led him to think about the larger STEM education curriculum of the school district at large.
His dream is to have the local industries take on high school students for summer internships BEFORE college so that they can make the important choice as to which post secondary education is right for them; 4 year, 2 year, trade school, apprenticeship etc. and this will feed into the long term success of Benicia and Solano County in general.
His other dream is for new light manufacturing startups to move into the industrial park, where the combination of a skilled workforce, cheaper rents, a good school district, and proximity to the main Bay Area would be enticing.
He holds an engineering degree from Princeton University, and a Master’s of engineering from Stanford University.
