WHY WE CARE

Picture

40% of Americans don't have
$400 in the bank for emergency expenses.

The struggle is real for many households in America. Poor financial planning is devastating in many families. In this volatile economy, parents are having difficulty paying their monthly bills, keeping a roof over their heads, and meeting the basic needs of their children.  Research indicates that 36% of Americans are unable to to pay all their bills on time and that 40% of Americans do not plan financially.

Money is high on the list of taboo topics, even though many are feeling the impact of financial illiteracy. The ability to make good financial decisions affects the physical and mental well-being of individuals and the community. Today, only 24% of millennials demonstrate basic financial literacy, while the number consumers age 60 and older with student loan debt has quadrupled over the last decade.

Financial illiteracy doesn't discriminate against age, race, or gender - it can, and does, negatively impact people of all ages and income levels. Federal Reserve Report (2018)

More Resources, More Outreach
As a not-for-profit foundation, our ability to do this important work is contingent on available funds generated through Travis Credit Union. Establishing the TCU Foundation as a legal entity in its own right allows us to raise and accumulate more resources to fund our Awesome Cause of financial education, financial literacy and financial advocacy.
GIVE NOW
As a nonprofit 501c3 corporation, the TCU Foundation is eligible for public and private grants. Our members, employees and supporters can make tax-free contributions that go directly back to the people and communities they love.

AWESOME CAUSE

Picture

Our history, over 70 years in the making, and our future come together in one word: community.

In October 1951, a group of community-minded military and civilian workers at Travis Air Force Base signed a charter to form a new federal credit union. This group wanted to use their new cooperative to ensure others on base who needed financial assistance had an alternative to banks, one that looked out for their best interest and cared for their financial well-being.

That cooperative grew into the Travis Credit Union (TCU) you know today, and over the last 70 years, Travis has continued to care about the financial wellness. TCU works every day to make a difference in the lives of people and their communities. As a secure and trusted financial institution, it advocates for the financial education and well-being of its membership, and to give back. Travis Credit Union developed the Awesome Cause movement to focus on bringing financial education and literacy to those who need it the most. To date, Travis has sponsored 200+ charities and local causes, and its employees have volunteered 14,000+ hours!

Natural continuation of the Awesome Cause is the Travis Credit Union Foundation. Established in 2018 as philanthropic arm of Travis Credit Union, the Foundation is a public charity committed to building financially empowered communities. The Foundation invests in the local communities and inspires the passionate commitment of our neighbors and partners to advance the Awesome Cause. It provides the members with an opportunity to give locally to programs that are helping people in their communities.

One hundred percent of your contribution goes to the cause! The Travis Credit Union Foundation is unique in that we maximize every cent of your donation to achieve 100% impact in your community. The Foundation supports a variety of programs and resources, such as financial education seminars to help people develop healthy planning, saving, spending, and borrowing habits.
